The immune system is an important part of the body. It is the system that is responsible for fighting off disease and generally maintaining a consistent level of health in your body. Anything that enhances the immune system therefore enhances your biological fitness through making it easier for your body to fight off foreign bacteria and viruses.

As the story goes, it appears as though the acai berry diet actually does have some benefit on the immune system. The main reason as to why this is thought to be true is two-fold, although both of the reasons are very strong indications that this relationship might definitely exist.

The first has to do with the chemical makeup of the acai berry. Without going too much into complicated details about the chemical structure of the main fruit used in the acai diet, it is sufficient to state that it resembles several other fruits that are thought to have the same positive effect on the immune system. Because of the presence of certain chemical chains in all of these fruits, the reasonable conclusion to draw from that is that the berry does indeed have some sort of positive effect on a person’s immune system.

The second is based on evidence. When people that were sick started on the acai berry diet during the period of time that they were sick, they had recoveries that were faster than expected to a very significant degree. Furthermore, people that had a propensity for getting things like colds throughout the year found that they were getting them less and less after they started taking the acai berry. Now, this type of evidence is anecdotal and therefore not as strong as it otherwise might be, but it is still a definite indication that the acai diet might actually help enhance your immune system and therefore make you healthier in more ways than one.

Like many of the other supposed benefits of the acai berry diet, this is one that needs more investigation. Only with more scientific studies being done on the relationship can it finally be determined whether or not this berry has a definite and positive effect on the immune system of the average person.
