If you’ve been paying any attention to the world of health and dieting for the last year or so, you’ve almost inevitably heard of acai berry. This little berry that hails from the Amazon rainforest has most prominently been promoted by Oprah and some of her celebrity doctor guests. The companies marketing acai products would have you believe that acai can fix all your health problems, but this isn’t exactly true.

The thing is that acai berry actually does have some very healthy properties. In fact, in terms of nutritional value, it has a tremendous amount of bang for your buck. There are a lot of important nutrients packed into those little berries. However, there are a couple of problems.

For one, the nutritional value of acai is greatly reduced when the berries have to be processed for storage and shipment around the world. By the time that most acai berry products reach consumers, they aren’t much more effective than some other healthy fruits, such as grapes. Thus, the best and most beneficial products are the ones that are made from pure, unprocessed acai.

However, even if you have access to completely pure acai berry, it’s important to understand what sort of benefits this super food really has. Some marketers will tell you things like acai will give you an energy boost or even improve sexual performance. Most of the hype behind acai has not been scientifically proven, and simply isn’t reliable.

The benefits of acai are generally more subtle, but still noteworthy. It can help fight the signs of early aging, promote muscle growth, improve your immune system and cardiovascular health, and reduce your blood pressure. There is a lot of good to be had from acai berry, just be sure that you do a little research and find the products that really can do what they say.
